LSE's involvement continues

LSE supports the SATCOMBw Step 2 system – the German Armed Forces' own communication system, composed of two satellites and several fixed and mobile ground stations – in both operations (spacecraft and ground) and engineering areas. The second satellite COMSATBw-2 was successfully launched on 22nd May 2010, following its fellow satellite COMSATBw-1, which has been in orbit since October 2009.

LSE staff provides 24/7 Ground Station Operations at DLR's SATCOMBw ground station in Weilheim (Germany) and operations engineering services at the German Space Operations Center (GSOC). During mission preparation, an LSE team supervised the integration and verification of the Weilheim ground station.

LSE has also contributed to the mission by providing System Engineering and Software Development services, which include customisation of the monitoring and control system, spacecraft database and ground segment software tools.
