GOCE, the latest ESA satellite, was successfully launched into a polar orbit at 15:21:13 on March 17.

The Mission Control Team at ESOC, ESA's Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, has ended the complex and critical 'Launch and Early Operations Phase' (LEOP) for GOCE and the satellite has switched into fine pointing mode today.

The nominal communications for GOCE are provided via ESA's Satellite Station in Kiruna, Sweden, manned by the Swedish Space Corporation. Nominal communications are planned to be provided for the ESA Satellite Station in Kiruna for about about two years.
