stratos_team_onthulling A team of 15 students from the Technical University in Delft, Holland, has arrived to Esrange with the objective to brake the European altitude record for a sounding rocket. Currently the record stands at 10,7 km. The project is called Stratos and the students are aiming to launch their rocket to 15 km.

The Stratos rocket is four meter long and consists of two stages. The first is an expendable drop-off booster which will propel the rocket close to the speed of sound. The booster will de-attach after burnout and the main stage will start bringing the rocket to unreached heights with a velocity of thrice the speed of sound, at around 3600 km/h. After a short coasting phase the rocket will reach its apogee of 15 km.
